MG and Chinese automotive tech expand market reach
Chinese automotive manufacturer MG, a European brand of SAIC Motor, is seeing an increase in its presence in the used car market. Since its established presence in France in 2020, the brand has offered a wide range of 11 models, including electric vehicles and hybrids. The shift toward hybrid models, such as the MG3 Hybrid+ and EHS PHEV, followed changes to environmental scoring systems that impacted purchase subsidies for some electric models.
Technological advancements are also becoming more accessible in lower-priced segments. Controlled suspension technology, previously reserved for luxury vehicles, is now appearing in mass-produced Chinese hybrid sedans priced under €13,000. This technology uses electrovalves to adjust shock absorber hardness in milliseconds, allowing vehicles to better manage the increased weight and torque characteristic of electric and hybrid drivetrains.
