MG 07 electric sedan launch draws plagiarism accusations

MG introduced the MG 07 electric sedan in China, offering pure‑electric and plug‑in‑hybrid versions priced around 150,000‑200,000 RMB for young buyers. The car sits on SAIC’s new EV platform, features an 800 V system, a 176 kW rear motor and a CLTC‑rated range up to 840 km for the electric model, while the PHEV combines a 1.5‑L engine with an electric motor for 185 km electric range. During an online launch on 29 June, MG Motor’s chief Chen Cui ended the livestream after netizens accused the MG 07 of copying the Porsche Taycan and Xiaomi SU7 designs. MG officials responded that the styling draws on the classic 1962 MGB GT, not on contemporary sport‑electric cars. The launch proceeds as planned, with sales to begin shortly in the Chinese market, and MG also announced expansion of its production footprint in Brazil.
