MGM Hospital ceiling collapse in Warangal injures several

A portion of the ceiling plaster collapsed at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal, Telangana, resulting in several minor injuries. The incident occurred in the Aarogyasri ward of the hospital's older building.

Reports indicate that the injured included a patient undergoing treatment for paralysis and several attendants or staff members. Hospital authorities stated that the injuries were minor, consisting primarily of bruises, and that the presence of a false ceiling and a ceiling fan helped mitigate the impact of the falling material.

Hospital officials attributed the collapse to water seepage from the roof, which had weakened the aging structure. As a precaution, the affected ward was vacated and secured. While the incident has raised concerns regarding the maintenance of the facility's older infrastructure, authorities noted that construction of a new multi-super-speciality hospital is currently underway to address these long-term capacity and safety issues.
