DLSS 5 technology expanded via mods to older GPUs and AMD hardware
New software modifications are expanding the accessibility and performance of NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 technology across various hardware configurations. While DLSS 5 was originally intended for the GeForce RTX 50 series, developers have successfully implemented mods to enable its features on older hardware, including RTX 30 series cards and even AMD Radeon GPUs via tools like DLSS-NR on AMD.
To address the high computational demands of DLSS 5, which can significantly impact frame rates, modders are utilizing a multi-GPU approach reminiscent of the discontinued SLI technology. Using the MGPU Bridge addon for ReShade, users can offload the intensive neural rendering process to a second graphics card. In this setup, one GPU handles the primary game rendering while the second acts as a specialized co-processor to apply DLSS 5 enhancements to the completed frames.
Testing in titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong has shown substantial performance gains. For instance, users have reported frame rates tripling in certain scenarios when using these optimizations. These developments allow for more efficient use of existing hardware to achieve high-fidelity neural rendering.
