MHP Deputy Chairman Yaşar Yıldırım Criticizes EU Stance on Cyprus at Datça Congress

At the 15th ordinary congress of the MHP Datça branch, Deputy Chairman Yaşar Yıldırım denounced a recent European Parliament resolution on Cyprus, arguing that the language used against the Turkish army reflected a double standard in human‑rights discourse. He cited the EU’s positions on Gaza, Nagorno‑Karabakh and Hocalı, claiming they showed bias against Turkey.

Yıldırım asserted that Turkish soldiers in the 1974 Cyprus operation acted to protect compatriots and maintain regional peace, not to occupy. He framed Turkey’s foreign policy as moving from a regional to a global power, emphasizing the Eastern Mediterranean, the Aegean and the “Blue Homeland” concept. The speech also highlighted the goal of strengthening ties with the Turkish world, supporting the creation of a Turkish States Organization, and promised to mobilize grassroots support to elect two MHP MPs from Muğla in the upcoming elections.
