Mia Bieniemy shot in Virginia; son Elijah Bieniemy charged with felonies

On July 26, Mia Bieniemy was critically wounded by gunfire at the family home in Ashburn, Virginia. Her son, Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. Two days earlier, on July 24, Elijah called the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reporting that his parents were withholding firearms that he said belonged to him, describing himself as a “certified UFC fighter” and saying he felt unable to defend himself. A prior welfare‑check request was logged in June after a college counselor expressed concern about Elijah’s well‑being. Elijah is currently undergoing a mental‑competency evaluation, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 9. Mia Bieniemy has been moved out of intensive care and is reported to be improving. Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, flew home after the incident, and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided updates on Mia’s condition. The investigation remains active.
