Miami-Dade officials oppose GTA 6 marketing takeover

Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez have voiced strong opposition to a proposed marketing campaign for the upcoming video game Grand Theft Auto VI. The proposal, discussed between county officials and Rockstar Games, aimed to brand various public spaces and infrastructures with themes from the game’s fictional setting, Vice City.

Proposed initiatives included rebranding Miami International Airport as ‘Vice City Airport’, wrapping Metro lines and aircraft in game branding, and installing themed manhole covers in Downtown Miami and Brickell. While the mayor’s office viewed the partnership as a potential revenue source, law enforcement officials argue the campaign would glorify criminal activity.

Sheriff Cordero-Stutz stated that the franchise is built around conduct such as murder, robbery, and drug trafficking—actions her office works daily to prevent. She emphasized that ‘Miami-Dade County is not Vice City’ and argued that using public resources to promote a fictionalized, crime-ridden version of the community sends the wrong message to the public.
