However, the proposal faces strong opposition from local law enforcement and some officials. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz argues that the game’s themes of robbery, drug trafficking, and violence against police are incompatible with public safety messaging. Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez also expressed concerns that the campaign could undermine the county’s reputation as a family-friendly destination for investment. Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan has requested that all court-related facilities be excluded from any such branding.

In a recent development, the Miami Beach City Commission narrowly approved a marketing campaign in a 4-3 vote. The deal, estimated to be worth approximately $4 million, includes placing themed branding on beach umbrellas and chairs, as well as a large ‘Welcome back to Vice City’ sign at the Kaseya Center. The marketing is expected to run from mid-October through the end of the year, excluding the Art Basel event in December. While supporters like Commissioner Laura Dominguez highlighted the economic benefits, opponents including Commissioner David Suarez and Sheriff Cordero-Stutz continue to voice concerns regarding the game’s depiction of violence.
