Miami Heat sign Dennis Smith Jr. to Exhibit 10 contract
The Miami Heat have signed free agent guard Dennis Smith Jr. to an Exhibit 10 contract. While the deal provides an opportunity for the 28-year-old to compete for a roster spot, reports indicate he is expected to return to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G League affiliate, rather than joining the main roster for the start of training camp.
During media day, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra addressed external criticism regarding the team’s roster construction, specifically concerning shooting and defense. Spoelstra dismissed the critiques, stating that the team welcomes the increased scrutiny and relevance that comes with their current lineup.
Star player Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed confidence in the team's defensive potential alongside Bam Adebayo. He also highlighted Davion Mitchell and Bobby Portis as players who have made a strong impression during the preseason. Additionally, the Heat have signed shooting guard Lester Quinones, who will compete for a two-way contract.
In related news for the Heat organization, the Sioux Falls Skyforce has announced its coaching staff for the upcoming season, which includes former NBA player Darius Johnson-Odom and Norris Cole.
