Miami International Airport begins $14 billion modernization

Miami International Airport (MIA) is initiating a major transformation project valued at approximately $14 billion. To facilitate this 15-year modernization program while maintaining active operations, airport authorities are acquiring surrounding properties to secure an additional 240 acres of land.

These acquired areas will serve as logistical support zones for construction, including storage for materials, equipment staging, and parking for workers. The modernization plan includes upgrades to terminals, new boarding gates, improved baggage systems, and infrastructure to accommodate larger aircraft and increased cargo capacity. By 2040, authorities project the airport will handle roughly 77 million passengers annually and manage over four million tons of air cargo.
