MiCA regulation ends transitional status for French crypto platforms
The transition period for the French digital asset service provider (PSAN) regime ended on July 2, 2026. Following this deadline, cryptocurrency platforms operating in France are required to have obtained full European authorization under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation to continue their regulated activities.
According to the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), the number of authorized providers across the European Union grew significantly, rising from 12 at the start of 2025 to over 170 by early 2026. Users are advised to consult the AMF register to verify a platform's status and check the official blacklist of unauthorized sites, which has seen 23 new additions since the beginning of 2026.
Operating through non-authorized platforms carries significant risks, including potential scams and a total lack of legal recourse in the event of platform bankruptcy or hacking.
