European MiCA crypto-asset regulation implementation

Overview

European regulators are implementing and overseeing the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation as transitional periods for national regimes conclude.

In France, the transition period for the digital asset service provider (PSAN) regime ended on July 2, 2026, requiring platforms to obtain full European authorization under MiCA to continue regulated activities. The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) noted that the number of authorized providers in the EU grew from 12 at the start of 2025 to over 170 by early 2026.

In Germany, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) has issued warnings against unauthorized platforms such as TitanFX.ai and roipax.de. Additionally, BaFin officials have raised concerns regarding the potential centralization of MiCA oversight, suggesting that shifting authorization responsibilities to a centralized EU supervisor could increase administrative burdens and reduce the flexibility of national regulators.
