Radosław Piesiewicz detained in Zondacrypto bribery probe

Radosław Piesiewicz, president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), has been detained by Polish authorities in connection with a major investigation into the failed cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. The investigation, led by the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, involves allegations of large-scale fraud, money laundering, and bribery.

Piesiewicz faces charges of paid protection and favoring specific creditors to the detriment of others during Zondacrypto's insolvency. Prosecutors also allege he accepted improper benefits, including a Patek Philippe watch valued at approximately 40,000 euros, in exchange for lobbying on behalf of the exchange. Piesiewicz has denied these allegations, asserting that he purchased the watch with his own funds.

The collapse of Zondacrypto has reportedly caused significant financial damage, with estimated losses reaching at least 350 million PLN (approximately 86-94 million USD), affecting thousands of investors. The probe has also been merged with an investigation into the 2022 disappearance of the exchange's founder, Sylwester Suszek.
