Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg in talks to return to Transformers

Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are reportedly in discussions to return to the Transformers film franchise. Paramount is looking to revitalize the series by reconnecting with the creative figures who defined its initial global success.

Michael Bay, who directed the original films and established the franchise's visual style, is in preliminary negotiations to return to the director's chair. Steven Spielberg, who previously served as an executive producer, is also being approached to take on a prominent role as a lead producer.

The new project, with a script by Jason Fuchs, is expected to move away from the period settings used in recent installments like Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, instead setting the story in the present day. This shift is seen as an attempt to return to the contemporary blockbuster roots that characterized the earlier era of the franchise.
