Transformers film franchise revitalization efforts

Overview

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are working to revitalize the Transformers franchise by reuniting key creative figures. Steven Spielberg is expected to take an expanded role, moving beyond his previous position as executive producer to oversee all creative aspects of the eighth live-action film alongside producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

Michael Bay, who directed the first five installments of the series, is in early negotiations to return as director. The new project features a screenplay by Jason Fuchs and is intended to be set in the modern day, an attempt to return to the contemporary blockbuster roots and energy that characterized the franchise’s earlier success following a period of declining box office performance.
