Michael Jordan 1998 NBA Finals jersey sells for $14 million

A Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14 million in a private sale, setting a new record for basketball memorabilia. The red Chicago Bulls jersey was worn by Jordan during Game 2 of the series against the Utah Jazz on June 5, 1998, a game in which he scored 37 points to help his team tie the series at 1-1.

Hunt Auctions, based in Pennsylvania, facilitated the transaction. The buyer has been identified as Ron Firman, a Miami-based real estate investor. David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, noted that Jordan’s memorabilia has transitioned into an “elite asset class” comparable to iconic works of art.

While this marks the highest price ever paid for a basketball collectible, it is the second-highest price for any game-worn sports jersey. The top spot is held by a 1932 Babe Ruth jersey, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024. This sale is the third time a jersey from Jordan’s 1998 Finals run has exceeded $10 million, following sales of Game 1 and Game 3 jerseys in recent years.
