Michael Jordan's 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello resurfaces

Michael Jordan’s 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello has resurfaced after nearly 24 years of being out of the public eye. The Rosso Barchetta vehicle, featuring tan leather interiors and chrome Speedline wheels, was delivered to Jordan in May 1997, shortly before he secured his fifth NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls.

The car is highly unique due to custom modifications made by Ferrari to accommodate Jordan’s 1.98-meter height, including modified seat rails and thinner padding. It bears the personalized license plate ‘MJ 5’ and was famously photographed as Jordan left the United Center following his championship victory.

Beyond its historical connection to Jordan’s career, the vehicle influenced design culture; the interior quilting and aesthetic elements of the 550 Maranello served as inspiration for the Air Jordan XIV sneakers. After Jordan sold the car in 2002, it remained in a private California collection for over two decades. The vehicle has an estimated value between $700,000 and $1.3 million.
