Michael Jordan's Ferrari sells for record US$2.7 million
A 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello formerly owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan has sold at auction for a record-breaking US$2.7 million. The sale price significantly exceeded the initial estimates provided by Joopiter, which had placed the vehicle's value between US$800,000 and US$1.3 million.
Jordan originally commissioned the vehicle through Foreign Cars Italia, with custom modifications made to accommodate his height. The car features a Rosso Barchetta exterior with a beige leather interior and carries the personalized license plate “MJ 5”. During his five years of ownership, Jordan drove the car approximately 10,300 kilometers, often using it to travel to Chicago Bulls games and practices.
After Jordan sold the vehicle in 2002, it remained in a private collection in California for nearly 25 years. The auction featured 43 bids, making it the most expensive 550 Maranello ever traded publicly. The car currently has 29,774 kilometers on the odometer and retains its 5.5-liter V12 engine.
