Michael Mann's Heat 2 casting negotiations focus on Leonardo DiCaprio

Michael Mann is preparing the sequel to his 1995 crime thriller Heat, with production slated to begin in September 2026 and wrap by March 2027. The $200 million‑plus project, backed by Amazon MGM Studios, will film in Los Angeles, Chicago, Las Vegas and Mexico.

Casting remains fluid and hinges on Leonardo DiCaprio’s availability. Reports say DiCaprio is considering either the original Neil McCauley role or Chris Shiherlis, while Christian Bale is reportedly set to play Vincent Hanna and Jason Clarke is lined up as the fixer Nate. Adam Driver has expressed interest in the antagonist Otis Wardell and could shift roles depending on DiCaprio’s decision. Stephen Graham and other veteran actors are also in talks for key parts.

The production’s schedule and budget give Mann flexibility to accommodate DiCaprio’s choice, reflecting Amazon/MGM’s commitment to having the star attached in some capacity.
