Atlanta Falcons name Michael Penix Jr. starter for Packers matchup

The Atlanta Falcons have named Michael Penix Jr. as their starting quarterback for the upcoming Thursday night matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The decision follows a difficult 0-2 start for Atlanta, which included a 34-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Penix, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 draft, makes his 2026 debut after recovering from a torn ACL that ended his previous season.

The Falcons' offense has struggled significantly under interim solutions, with Cooper Rush and Jack Strand combining for five interceptions in two games. Penix aims to stabilize the unit and reconnect with wide receiver Drake London.

Both teams face injury challenges heading into the game. The Packers have ruled out several players, including Jayden Reed, Zach Bako-Bewele, and Aaron Banks. The Falcons will be without cornerback A. J. Terrell, who has been placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, and defensive end Samson Ebukam.
