Michael Schanze faces housing crisis and health challenges

Former German television presenter Michael Schanze is facing significant personal challenges, including a difficult search for new housing in Munich. Schanze, 79, must vacate his current rental home in Obermenzing by the end of the year because the building is scheduled for demolition.

In addition to the housing crisis, Schanze is managing health issues and the recent loss of his partner, Uschi, who passed away in the summer of 2024. He has noted that he can no longer manage all tasks alone, specifically citing “very large deficits” in handling administrative and office work.

While his family provides varying levels of support—with one son living in America, another in Hamburg, and a third in Munich—his eldest son assists with paperwork and his brother lives nearby. Schanze is currently seeking a new residence before his 80th birthday in January 2027.
