Michael Schanze finds new Munich apartment

Overview

German television presenter Michael Schanze has secured a new apartment in the Obermenzing district of Munich following a months-long search. The 79-year-old entertainer was required to vacate his previous residence by the end of 2026 due to scheduled demolition of his apartment building, which he had occupied for 13 years.

During his search, Schanze reportedly viewed between 50 and 60 properties to meet specific health and lifestyle needs. His requirements included a minimum of 100 to 110 square meters to accommodate his concert grand pianos, elevator access to assist with mobility issues caused by polyneuropathy, and a monthly rent of up to 3,000 euros. While the new residence is smaller than his initial requirements, measuring under 100 square meters, it allows him to remain in his familiar neighborhood.

The move is scheduled for November 15. To assist with the transition and administrative challenges, Schanze will receive organizational support from a school friend, as well as from Caritas and senior assistance services. He intends to celebrate his 80th birthday in the new home in January 2027.
