Michael van Gerwen exits World Grand Prix in first round

Three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen has suffered another early exit at the World Grand Prix, losing 2-1 to Ryan Joyce in Leicester. This marks the third consecutive year the 37-year-old Dutchman has failed to progress past the first round of this tournament.

He noted that he has failed to reach a quarter-final in any of the first five major tournaments this season. His recent struggles include a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and a first-round exit at the World Series of Darts Finals, where he failed to convert six match darts.
