Michiel Vandeweert dies at 28 after battle with progeria

Belgian influencer, streamer, and activist Michiel Vandeweert has died at the age of 28. Vandeweert lived with progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition that causes rapid, premature aging.

Despite medical forecasts during his childhood suggesting he might not live past the age of 12 or 14, Vandeweert lived significantly longer, becoming an inspiration to many through his social media presence and his TEDx talk. He was a prominent figure on platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch, where he shared his experiences as a gamer and DJ.

The Belgian football club KRC Genk, of which he was a passionate supporter, honored him by announcing that his funeral will be held at the club's stadium, marking the first time the venue has hosted a funeral event.
