Death of Belgian influencer Michiel Vandeweert
Overview
Michiel Vandeweert, a Belgian content creator and activist, has died at the age of 28. Vandeweert lived with progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, a rare genetic disorder characterized by rapid physical aging.
Though medical professionals initially predicted he would not live past his early teens, Vandeweert lived more than twice that expected lifespan. He gained a significant following on platforms including Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch, where he shared his life as a gamer and DJ. He also authored a memoir and was featured in a documentary alongside his sister, Amber, who also lives with the condition.
Following his death, the Belgian football club KRC Genk, a team he supported, announced that his funeral would be held on the club’s pitch, marking the first time such an event will occur at the stadium.
