Taylor Farms has issued a voluntary recall of more than a dozen prepared food products, including salsas, guacamole, and dips, due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall follows an investigation by the FDA and CDC into a multi-state Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 345 people across 27 states, resulting in 36 hospitalizations.

The contaminated jalapeño peppers were traced to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, and were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors. Major restaurant chains, including Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba, have already removed the affected peppers from their menus. Taylor Farms, which has ceased sourcing from the implicated grower, stated it is unaware of any illnesses specifically linked to its recalled products.

This recall occurs as Taylor Farms also manages a separate food safety crisis. The company is under investigation for a multi-state Cyclospora outbreak linked to its iceberg lettuce. While a previous laboratory test for Cyclospora in Taylor Farms lettuce was determined to be a false positive, the FDA maintains that epidemiological evidence continues to point to the company’s Mexican-sourced lettuce as the source of that outbreak.
