Michigan football faces scrutiny following controversial win over Western Michigan

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) has formally requested that the NCAA and the College Football Playoff committee recognize Western Michigan as the winner, arguing that replay protocols were not correctly followed. While the NCAA is unlikely to overturn the result, the controversy has impacted Michigan’s standing, causing them to fall out of the AP Top 25.

Internal tension has emerged within the Michigan program. Head coach Kyle Whittingham expressed dissatisfaction with the team's performance, noting that the starting role for Underwood is “not something that’s infinite.” Players held a meeting to address what safety Rod Moore described as playing “soft.” Meanwhile, Western Michigan coach Lance Taylor emphasized moving forward despite the perceived injustice.
