Michito Oshima elected Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly speaker via lottery

Michito Oshima of the Liberal Democratic Party has been elected as the new speaker of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly. The election, held on September 9, followed the resignation of former speaker Isao Kurauchi.

The election process resulted in a tie between Oshima and Masahiko Shinkai of the Komeito party, with both candidates receiving 39 votes in the first round. After a brief recess to discuss selection methods, the assembly decided to resolve the tie via a lottery. Oshima was subsequently selected as the new speaker through the drawing process.
