Michoacán authorities remove 1.7 tons of waste from Playa Azul

Authorities and volunteers conducted a large-scale cleaning operation at Playa Azul in the Lázaro Cárdenas municipality of Michoacán, removing approximately 1.775 tons of waste. The collected materials included PET plastic, glass, urban solid waste, and coastal ecosystem vegetation.

The initiative was organized by Semarnat in Michoacán as part of the National Strategy for the Cleaning and Conservation of Mexico's Beaches and Coasts 2025–2030. This strategy aims to eliminate 100% of plastic waste from the country's coasts by 2030 through coordinated prevention and social participation.

Participants included personnel from Profepa, Semar, Conagua, Conafor, and the local government, alongside representatives from ArcelorMittal México and various local organizations. The effort seeks to prevent waste from entering the sea and impacting marine species and natural habitats.
