Michoacán security forces report 406 arrests and major drug seizures
Michoacán security forces reported significant results in their ongoing fight against organized crime and extortion throughout September. The state's Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) identified over 600 extortion calls linked to six specific area codes, most notably from Mexico City (55), Jalisco (33), and Edomex (720). Intelligence efforts also geolocalized several calls originating from regional penitentiaries, including Altamira, Matamoros, and Santa Martha Acatitla.
In a separate violent incident, gunmen opened fire at the El Nuevo Quijote bar in Zamora, killing four people—three men and one woman—and wounding three others. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was driven by territorial disputes between drug cartels, including the CJNG, Los Caballeros Templarios, and Los Reyes.
Broader enforcement operations in the state led to the arrest of 406 individuals in September. Authorities also reported the seizure of 1,271 kilograms of drugs, 105 firearms, and 890 vehicles during various security deployments.
