Michoacán Governor announces expansion of oncology center

Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla has announced plans to expand the State Oncology Care Center (CEAO) to increase medical assistance for cancer patients. The expansion aims to increase the facility's capacity from 14 to 60 beds.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year, utilizing the former Hospital Civil facilities. The project will be carried out in coordination with IMSS Bienestar. Health Secretary Elías Ibarra Torres reported that state health strategies, including access to advanced technology and financial support, have improved survival rates for children with leukemia, tumors, and lymphomas from 60 to 75 percent. Additionally, treatment abandonment rates for children dropped from 30 to 1 percent, while adult abandonment rates decreased from 30 to 10 percent.

In a separate development regarding regional infrastructure, Governor Bedolla noted ongoing investments in health, housing, and environmental preservation. This includes the supervision of the Regional Hospital and IMSS-Bienestar clinic in Pátzcuaro, as well as a 1.1 billion peso sanitation project for Lake Pátzcuaro involving Conagua.
