Michoacán governor launches 10.5 million‑tree reforestation, drones disperse seeds

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced the start of a reforestation campaign in Michoacán that will plant 10.5 million trees across roughly 17,000 hectares. The effort targets priority areas such as the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, the lake basins of Pátzcuaro and Río Duero, and other protected zones, with a focus on restoring water‑forest services.

In a related initiative, the state Forest Commission began the “Bio Renace: Dispersando Vida” program in the Estribo Grande area near Pátzcuaro. Using drones, crews spread about 12,000 pine seeds and other species to rehabilitate forest lands burned by recent fires, aiming to restore 50 hectares with a total of 200 000 seed‑coated spheres. Bedolla emphasized, “Conservation of our forests is a task that concerns us all,” urging community participation in the projects.
