Mexico receives $35 billion in foreign direct investment
Mexico received approximately $35 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first half of 2026, according to Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard. This influx is part of the 'Plan México' strategy to strengthen productive investment and leverage the nearshoring of companies.
Key upcoming projects include a $4.6 billion investment from Mercado Libre, expected to generate roughly 8,000 jobs across 19 Mexican states, and a $400 million investment from Lego scheduled through 2029. Ebrard noted that these initiatives aim to increase Mexico's productive capacity and strengthen supply chains.
Additionally, the Secretary is managing trade relations with the United States, specifically regarding tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles, while working to integrate North American supply chains.
