Economic and infrastructure development in Michoacán

Overview

Michoacán is implementing various initiatives to bolster its regional economy and infrastructure. The Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco) launched the Michoacán Product of Origin Award 2026 to increase the visibility and commercial projection of products tied to the state’s identity, including those with denominations of origin and geographical indications.

Complementing these efforts, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla reported a historic private investment exceeding 94 billion pesos between 2022 and 2026. Notable developments include the ARAUCO company’s 360 million dollar Vikingo plant in Zitácuaro, which is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs.

Other regional advancements include environmental restoration through drone-assisted seed dispersal, over 1.3 billion pesos in hospital infrastructure for indigenous communities, and improvements to urban mobility and tourism.
