Michoacán, Mexico Highlights Paricutín Volcano and Morelia for Summer Tourism

The Michoacán state tourism board is promoting visits to the Paricutín volcano, which emerged in 1943 and now serves as a major natural attraction. Guided tours depart from the community of Angahuan, allowing visitors to hike or ride to the crater and see the ruins of the San Juan Parangaricutiro temple, whose tower stands amid solidified lava. The promotion also suggests extending trips to nearby Uruapan to explore the Barranca del Cupatitzio National Park, its cable‑car, historic centre and local Purépecha culture.

In the same push, the capital city of Morelia is highlighted for its UNESCO World Heritage colonial centre. Key sites include the Baroque Morelia Cathedral with its 70‑metre twin towers, the historic aqueduct built in 1785, and a vibrant food scene featuring local restaurants and cafés. The campaign frames both the natural wonder of Paricutín and the cultural heritage of Morelia as ideal summer destinations.
