Michoacán promotes disability rights through sports and inclusion initiatives

In Michoacán, Mexico, the first edition of the “La Meta es la Inclusión” race was held to promote the rights of people with disabilities and encourage the use of public spaces for sports. Organized by the Michoacán State Human Rights Commission and the State Monitoring Mechanism for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the event drew over 800 participants. Josué Mejía, the state ombudsperson, announced that the race will become an annual institutional event. Additionally, over 700 school supply kits collected during the event will be donated to special education schools in Morelia and surrounding municipalities.

In related sports news, a delegation from Michoacán has been selected to compete in the 2026 Special Olympics Mexico National Summer Games in Mexico City. The delegation includes six athletes competing in athletics, swimming, and unified bocce. These games serve as a qualifying platform for the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile.
