Mexican Navy seizes 1.9 tons of cocaine near Guerrero
The Mexican Navy (Semar) has conducted significant drug interdiction operations in the Pacific Ocean and across Michoacán. In a maritime operation approximately 315 kilometers southwest of Zihuatanejo, authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 1.9 tons of suspected cocaine. The seizure, which included 53 bundles and two outboard motors, resulted in the arrest of two crew members and represents an estimated economic loss of over 405 million pesos to criminal organizations. Officials stated the operation prevented more than three million doses from entering society.
In Michoacán, naval and federal forces dismantled several clandestine laboratories used for the production of synthetic drugs, including methamphetamine. Operations in the Lázaro Cárdenas region and near the borders of Los Reyes and Peribán led to the seizure of chemical precursors, reactors, and specialized equipment. These actions aim to disrupt the production and financing capabilities of organized crime groups operating in the state.
Additionally, a joint operation between U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Mexican Navy resulted in the seizure of nearly seven tons of cocaine off the coast of Chiapas during multiple interdictions in July. These combined efforts highlight intensified maritime and terrestrial surveillance against drug trafficking routes in the Pacific region.
