Mexico security crackdown on armed groups

Entities: Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana (SSPC) · Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) · Secretaría de Marina (Mexican Navy) · Mexican Army · Guardia Nacional

Overview

In mid‑July, Mexican security forces carried out coordinated raids across multiple states, seizing large caches of firearms, ammunition, drugs and other contraband while arresting dozens of suspects. Operations spanned Sinaloa, Baja California, Mexico City, Jalisco, Michoacán, Oaxaca and other regions, highlighting an intensified nationwide effort against organized crime.

A week later, authorities launched a Code Red operation in the coastal municipality of Alvarado, Jalisco, after reports of gunfire. Police, the National Guard and the army cordoned the area, seized additional weapons and vehicles, and continued patrols to restore order. While no arrests were confirmed in that incident, the action demonstrates the ongoing focus on disrupting armed groups and preventing further violence.

At the end of July, security agencies expanded the campaign with further coordinated actions in Tamaulipas and Sinaloa. In Reynosa, agents uncovered six short firearms and eight magazines hidden inside a bus horn. In Concordia, Sinaloa, a joint task force recovered three AK‑47 rifles, 30 magazines, more than 3,300 cartridges, tactical gear and ballistic plates from a suspected criminal camp. In Nuevo Laredo, police intercepted two suspects, seizing two firearms, ten magazines and 177 cartridges before placing the men in preventive detention. All seized items were turned over to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office for investigation, underscoring the sustained pressure on armed criminal networks.
