Micron Taiwan unions reject bonuses, demand 15% profit-sharing
Labor unions at Micron Technology in Taiwan have rejected a recently announced one-time bonus scheme, instead demanding a transparent profit-sharing system based on 15% of operating profits.
Micron previously announced record-breaking compensation for fiscal year 2026, which includes a 1 million TWD cash bonus for eligible employees hired before August 29, 2025, alongside performance bonuses and stock rewards. The company stated that total compensation for production line employees in Taiwan would range from 35 to 68 months of salary.
Union leaders criticized the company for unilaterally announcing these bonuses during an ongoing labor dispute mediation process, accusing Micron of attempting to influence public perception. The union noted that the proposed one-time bonuses represent only about 4.4% of operating profits, which they claim lags behind other major memory manufacturers.
Union representatives stated that if upcoming labor negotiations on September 18 and 21 do not result in a clearer profit-sharing proposal, they will proceed with strike votes. Micron has responded by stating it will continue to listen to team members and participate in mediation proceedings in good faith.
