Micron Technology faces potential strike in Taiwan after failed labor mediation

Labor mediation between Micron Technology and the Taiwan Micron Memory Union has reached an impasse in Taoyuan. The union announced it will move forward with a strike vote following the failure of a second mediation session on September 21.

A primary point of contention is the lack of a concrete proposal regarding a profit-sharing system. The union expressed dissatisfaction that Micron unilaterally announced a one-time bonus of 1 million TWD in September without prior consultation with the Taoyuan or Taichung unions.

Micron stated it remains committed to constructive dialogue and seeks solutions that balance employee interests with the company’s long-term development and Taiwan’s economy. While the Taoyuan mediation failed, a second mediation session with the Taichung union is scheduled for October 22.

During discussions, parties addressed compensation structures, the ‘no free rider’ issue, and non-retaliation policies. Micron reiterated its global policy that employees have the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association without fear of retaliation.
