Micron Technology faces stock volatility and labor unrest in Taiwan

Micron Technology's stock has experienced significant volatility, dropping as much as 6.3% due to investor concerns regarding a potential slowdown in artificial intelligence spending. Market skepticism has been fueled by comments from Nvidia's CEO regarding capital scarcity in the AI cloud market and high capital expenditures reported by companies like Meta.

Beyond market sentiment, the company is navigating labor challenges in Taiwan. While a union in Taichung recently reached an agreement on labor matters, workers at the Taoyuan facility held a one-day warning strike to demand clearer profit-sharing formulas and better bonus conditions. The immediate impact on production was reported as limited.

Despite these headwinds, Micron has outlined a long-term technology roadmap through 2030. The plan focuses heavily on AI-driven growth, including the annual release of new high-bandwidth memory (HBM) generations, starting with HBM4 in 2026. The company also aims to advance its NAND flash technology, with plans to begin volume production of G11 3D NAND in the second half of 2027, targeting doubled bit density and improved energy efficiency.
