Micronutrient deficiencies affect many women in Vietnam

A significant portion of women of reproductive age in Vietnam are facing micronutrient deficiencies. According to Dr. Huynh Ngoc Phuong Thuy from Hung Vuong Hospital, nearly 70% of women in this demographic lack zinc.

Data from the National Institute of Nutrition indicates that iron deficiency anemia affects approximately 16% of women of reproductive age and 25% of pregnant women. Other potential deficiencies include vitamin D, vitamin B12, and calcium.

Medical experts note that these deficiencies do not necessarily stem from skipping meals. Instead, they often result from non-diverse diets, improper dieting, or an over-reliance on specific food groups. Because early symptoms of iron deficiency can be subtle and easily mistaken for general fatigue, the condition often goes unrecognized.
