Microsoft and Zoom announce improved interoperability for meeting rooms
Microsoft and Zoom have announced plans to enhance interoperability between Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms through a new feature called Cross-Platform Meeting Connect. This initiative aims to simplify the process of joining cross-platform meetings from room systems without requiring multiple licenses or the management of various native applications.
The feature will support dual-display functionality, HDMI content sharing, participant rosters, read-only meeting chat, and synchronized muting and call ending. Additionally, 1080p video for Teams meetings on Zoom Rooms has already reached general availability. While the initial focus is on the connection between Zoom and Microsoft, support for other platforms is expected to follow.
Industry experts have noted that while this is a significant step forward from previous guest join capabilities, the rapid evolution of native clients—particularly regarding AI integration—remains a challenge for interoperability efforts.
