Microsoft CEO says Xbox division is not yet a profitable business

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella stated that the Xbox gaming division, despite being one of the world’s three largest game companies, has not generated profit and has been subsidized for about 25 years. He noted that revenue from Xbox game content on YouTube exceeds the income Microsoft captures directly, highlighting a need to better monetize the platform.

Nadella emphasized the challenge of turning the entertainment venture into a sustainable business while maintaining quality games and competitive hardware. He also cited broader industry pressures such as rising component costs, semiconductor shortages, and the impact of cloud computing and artificial‑intelligence investments on overall electronics expenses.
