Microsoft plans to make Windows 11 search the central hub

Microsoft has unveiled plans to transform the Windows 11 search function into a central hub for user interaction, potentially challenging the traditional role of the Start menu. During a press event in San Francisco, the company demonstrated a vision where the search bar acts similarly to a chat interface, allowing users to execute commands and control the computer directly through text.

According to Windows lead Pavan Davuluri, thousands of such direct actions are being developed. The updated search function is intended to integrate with other programs, including Copilot, to handle more advanced tasks and answer complex questions.

Technical improvements include a rebuild using WinUI 3 technology to enhance speed and memory efficiency. The update also aims to simplify the interface by removing unnecessary content and streamlining search results. The new version began rolling out to Windows Insider users on October 7, initially in English.
