Microsoft announced a worldwide price increase for all Xbox Series consoles effective 1 August 2026. Prices rise $100 for the 512 GB models and $150 for the 1 TB models, and the 2 TB variant is discontinued. The company said storage and memory component costs have risen more than 2.5 times and are expected to double again by late 2027, forcing the hikes.

Apple disclosed price adjustments for several MacBook, iPad and the new MacBook Neo models, with increases ranging from 15 % to 25 %. The MacBook Air (512 GB) jumps from $1,099 to $1,299, the MacBook Pro (1 TB) from $1,699 to $1,999, and the iPad Air (128 GB) from $599 to $749. Apple cited an unprecedented surge in DRAM and NAND flash prices, driven by AI data‑center demand, as the primary cause.

Both companies point to the same underlying issue: a global memory‑chip shortage caused by the rapid expansion of artificial‑intelligence workloads, which has driven component prices sharply higher and is expected to persist through 2027. Micron’s quarterly report confirmed the industry‑wide shortage, noting that supply‑demand imbalances are unlikely to ease before 2028.

To mitigate the impact on consumers, Microsoft introduced financing options, buy‑now‑pay‑later plans and trade‑in programmes for used consoles, while Apple has not announced comparable measures but warned that further price adjustments may follow if component costs continue to climb.
