Microsoft to report Azure quarterly revenue amid financial restructuring

Microsoft has announced a major overhaul of its financial reporting structure, effective from fiscal year 2027, to better reflect the impact of artificial intelligence on its business. For the first time, the company will disclose specific quarterly revenue figures for its Azure cloud computing unit, moving away from reporting only growth percentages. In the most recent quarter ending June 30, 2026, Azure revenue reached $29.42 billion, representing a 42% year-over-year increase. For the full fiscal year 2026, Azure revenue surpassed $100 billion.

The restructuring involves consolidating its three existing business segments into two new categories: ‘Agents and Infra’ and ‘Devices and Consumer.’ The ‘Agents and Infra’ segment will encompass Azure, Microsoft 365 cloud services, server products, and industry solutions. The ‘Devices and Consumer’ segment will include Windows, Xbox, search, and advertising. To ensure Azure more purely reflects its consumption-based infrastructure business, certain services such as GitHub Cloud, Security Copilot, and healthcare-specific cloud solutions will be reclassified into other segments.

CEO Satya Nadella noted that AI is blurring product boundaries and reshaping the company's business models. This shift toward greater transparency allows for more direct comparisons with competitors like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
