Microsoft suspends Office update after causing software errors
Microsoft has suspended the distribution of a problematic update, KB5002907, after reports that it caused significant issues for users of older Microsoft Office versions. While originally intended as an optional update for outdated Microsoft 365 installations to help them rejoin the current update channel, the update unexpectedly impacted users with one-time purchase licenses for Office 2016 and Office 2019.
Affected users reported that the update could deactivate their existing installations or, in more severe cases, remove the software entirely. Some users also encountered error messages claiming their Office products no longer held a valid license despite having previously purchased them. Microsoft has confirmed the error and halted the rollout of the update.
