Microsoft to allow remapping of Windows 11 Copilot key

Microsoft is introducing a native way for Windows 11 users to remap the dedicated Copilot key on keyboards. This follows feedback regarding the replacement of the right Ctrl key with an AI-focused button, which some users found intrusive or disruptive to existing applications.

Recent Windows 11 Insider builds indicate that users will soon be able to customize the key's behavior through system settings. Potential options for the key include restoring its original function as the right Ctrl key, using it to open a context menu, triggering a search, or launching a specific application.
