Microsoft upgrades OneDrive with HTML, Markdown, and Copilot integration
Microsoft has announced a major update to OneDrive, introducing new capabilities designed for AI-driven workflows and enhanced collaboration. A key feature is the ability to directly open, edit, and collaborate on HTML and Markdown files within the platform. For HTML, users can modify text on rendered pages and utilize a side-by-side real-time source code preview. Markdown support includes a ‘what you see is what you get’ (WYSIWYG) editor with rich text tools, allowing users to format documents easily while maintaining the underlying file format.
Copilot is now generally available in OneDrive and SharePoint, offering features such as multi-file analysis, project organization, and the ability to transform files into HTML reports. Additionally, Microsoft is improving the core file system, allowing OneDrive for Windows and Mac to sync up to one million items and operate more efficiently with as little as 8 GB of RAM. Other updates include a new command line interface (CLI) in private preview, improved sharing via ‘Hero Links’ that allow permission updates without changing URLs, and enhanced photo management features including natural language search and a map view.
